Interesting Facts about the Ludwigsburg Pumpkin Festival

Regional

Our pumpkins are grown primarily in the district of Ludwigsburg. About 80% come from the Eisenmann fruit farm near Marbach am Neckar, while roughly 20% are grown by pumpkin producers in the greater Stuttgart region. This regional cooperation enables us to reach our goal of offering local produce requiring minimum transport. We are also continuously searching for pumpkin seeds from all over the world to expand our selection of pumpkin varieties. We then test cultivation, taste, durability, ease of preparation in the kitchen and many other elements. If we discover a new high-quality variety, we offer it for sale at Blühendes Barock or display it as one of our decorative pumpkins.

Pumpkin Sculptures

Our pumpkin exhibits are built upon support structures constructed mainly from locally sourced wood and straw. The use of materials from the district of Ludwigsburg (or occasionally bordering communities) is in keeping with our regional focus and commitment to short transport distances. Our team of artists—led by Pit Ruge and produced at Waldwerft in Cleebronn, who have delighted us with wonderful pumpkin sculptures for more than 15 years—make it their business to keep a watchful eye on the pumpkins that will be used later in their decorative artistry. It’s thanks to their know-how in arranging diverse varieties of pumpkins—marrying together a multitude of shapes, sizes and colours—that we can present fantastic pumpkin art for all to enjoy at our annual fall festival.

Jucker Farm - Your Adventure Farm

The mother of all pumpkin festivals is held annually at the Jucker Farm in Seegräben. Together with its sister farm Bächlihof in Jona, each year the two Swiss pumpkin festivals present a new theme that is repeated for your viewing pleasure one year later in Ludwigsburg. In addition to their splendid locations with mountain and lake views, farm shops with homemade products, enticing gastronomic menus and homemade pastries, the farms offer visitors much more, including attractions such as a petting zoo, a straw castle, a natural playground and a unique labyrinth made from apple trees.  From Ludwigsburg you can reach our farms by car in approximately 2.5 hours.  It’s worth a visit!

Pumpkin World Record 2017 - Congratulations from Jucker!

The new world-record pumpkin from grower Matthias Willemijns of Belgium weis 1.2 tonnes. The gargantuan gourd was hoisted onto the scales at the European Pumpkin Weigh Off Champions on October 9, 2016 at Blühenden Barock in Ludwigsburg, Baden-Württemberg. In front of the world-renowned baroque palace, the prodigious pumpkin dethroned the former record holder - it weighed in at 136 kilos heavier than the former champion from Switzerland.
